How to Run for a Position
For all parents of currently enrolled students, nominations for the 2021-2022 Executive Board will be taken by email from now through the Special PTA Meeting on May 26, 2021. At the nominations will be taken from the floor until 6:45 pm and read from the nominating forms returned to the PTA. The election will follow right after.
Each candidate will be given an opportunity to address the audience. Once nominations are closed, if there is more than one parent nominated for a position, an online ballot election will be held. Results will be announced right after the election.

If you are interested in self nominating for a PTA Executive Board position, please complete and submit the nominating form . A phone number is necessary so that the Nominating Committee can contact you to verify your nomination. Nominations that cannot be confirmed will not be placed on the ballot. Candidates that return a form do not need to be present on election night to run; but you MUST notify the PTA Nominating Committee if you are not attending to remain on the ballot. You may submit a speech in writing to be read by the nominating committee at the election. Send an email to adhsptanominations@gmail.com if you have any questions.
School Leadership Team (SLT) Election 2021-2022
One parent seat will be available on the School Leadership Team (SLT) beginning Fall 2021 for a two-year term. The SLT develops the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP), evaluates the CEP, and aligns the budget to support the CEP which sets annual goals for the school in all areas and focuses on developing educational strategies for improvement. All members of the school community are represented on the SLT. A&D’s SLT is comprised of equal parts parents, school personnel and two students. The SLT meets once a month for 2 hours after school hours, usually right before the General PTA meeting the first Thursday of every month at 4:30PM. FROM THE BYLAWS (and with additional notes):
Duties of Officers:
President or co-presidents (Mandatory Position)
1. The duties of the president/co-presidents shall include but are not limited to the following:
a. preside at all meetings of the Association;
b. is an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee;
c. appoint Association committee chairpersons with the approval of the executive board;
d. encourage meaningful participation in all parent and school activities;
e. provide opportunities for members’ leadership development;
f. delegate responsibilities to members of the Association as needed;
g. attend all regular meetings of the presidents’ council;
h. is a mandatory member of the School Leadership Team;
i. meet regularly with the executive board members;
j. plan the agendas for the general membership meetings;
k. is one of the eligible signatories on checks, and
l. assist with the June transfer of Association records, including all pertinent user ids and passwords, to the incoming executive board.
Notes: Approximate time commitment: 20 hrs. per month.
Recording Secretary or co-recording secretaries (Mandatory Position)
2. The duties of the recording secretary/co-secretaries shall include but are not limited to the following:
a. record minutes at all Association meetings;
b. prepare notices, agendas, sign-in sheets and materials for distribution;
c. prepare and read the minutes at Association meetings;
d. distribute copies of the minutes for review and approval by the general membership;
e. maintain the custody of the Association’s records on school premises;
f. incorporate all amendments into the bylaws, and;
g. ensure that signed copies of the bylaws with the latest amendments are on file in the principal’s office;
h. assist with the June transfer of Association records, including all pertinent user ids and passwords, to the incoming executive board.
Notes: Approximate time commitment: 10 hrs. per month.
Treasurer or co-treasurers (Mandatory Position)
3. The duties of the treasurer/co-treasurers shall include but are not limited to the following:
a. responsible for all financial affairs and funds of the Association;
b. maintain an updated record of all income and expenditures on school premises;
c. is one of the signatories on checks;
d. adhere to and implement all financial procedures established by the Association;
e. prepare and present a written report of all transactions at every executive board and general membership meeting (which includes income, refunds, reimbursements and other expenditures, and opening and closing balances for the reporting period);
f. prepare the Association’s interim and annual financial reports;
g. make available all books and financial records for viewing by members upon request and for audit;
h. assist with the June transfer of Association records, including all pertinent user ids and passwords, to the incoming executive board.
Notes: Approximate time commitment: 10 hrs. per month. Bookkeeping and/or QuickBooks skills are a plus
Vice President or co-vice presidents
Vice-President(s) assist the President or Co-Presidents and shall assume the Presidential duties in their absence or upon request; The 1st Vice-President shall be Chair of the fundraising committee. The 2nd Vice-President shall assist other officers in their duties as delegated by the President or Co-Presidents.
Notes: Approximate time commitment: 10 hrs. per month.
Assistant Vice President (Election in Fall 2021)
Assistant Vice President shall assume the Vice President or Co-Vice Presidents duties in their absence or upon request; the Vice President or Co-Vice Presidents shall be Chair of the fundraising committee. The Assistant Vice President shall assist other officers in their duties as delegated by the President or Co-Presidents.
Notes: Approximate time commitment: 10 hrs. per month.
Assistant Treasurer (Election in Fall 2021)
Assistant Treasurer shall be available to assist the Treasurer or co-treasurers and perform all duties as needed by the Treasurer in his/her absence. The Assistant Treasurer may be one of the signatories on all checks;
Notes: Approximate time commitment: 7 hrs. per month.
Corresponding Secretary or co-corresponding secretaries
Corresponding Secretary/co-corresponding secretaries assists with the June transfer of Association records, including all pertinent user ids and passwords, to the incoming executive board, prepares notices, agendas, sign in sheets and materials for distribution, as well as oversight of digital correspondence/platforms. The Corresponding Secretary shall be the Chair of the Communications Committee.
Notes: Approximate time commitment: 10 hrs. per month. Email and Social Media skills are a plus.
For all positions: Officers shall be expected to attend every executive board meeting. The executive board shall meet monthly, September through June, on the first Monday of every month at 5:00 PM, for two hours. Grounds for dismissal include: 2 unexcused absences from executive board or general membership meetings and derelict in communications with the executive board. Please be aware of the time and attendance commitments!
